More down here ↓↓↓ Click MORE!
This is the fifth in a series of videos geared toward the person who has never worked with CAD or CAM software before. In this video, we’ll get into importing vectors into VCarve Pro for the absolute beginner.
I’ll show you how to Import an SVG file into VCarve Pro. I’ll then demonstrate Centering and Resizing the vectors. I’ll demonstrate how not all SVG files are suitable for use in CAD/CAM software with the help of Affinity Designer. Then we’ll get into importing a DXF file, and I’ll demonstrate some of the issues to look for with those file formats.
As usual, if you have any comments or que...

    20 different ways to accomplish the same thing. I made my spoiler board bigger than the center of the end mill can reach. i used a IDC 1 1/2" surfacing bit. To surface use the GSender built in toolpath creator. It takes the endmill Center to the line not the end mill to the line. This mean the surfacing bit overhangs the line by 3/4" on all sides. Alternatively, if I were to write a file for it, I would start in a Profile tool path "On the line" and a then a Pocket to the same depth.

    You mentioned sheets a few times this past month, so I finally checked out the sheet thingy. This design feature is totally awesome! Now I know how to keep all of my project tool paths in one VCarve Pro document. So aspire isn't a 3d modeller like sketchup? Why is it then $2000.

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC 3 дня назад

      Aspire IS 3D modeling software. SketchUp is also a 3D modeling software. They create different types of 3D models (SketchUp is more structural and Aspire is more artistic.) Having the ability to import SketchUp models into Aspire is just a bonus.

    We've never used a CNC machine, much less the software needed to operate one, yet we still ended up purchasing a Zenbot 4896. We just finished assembling it and are in the process of learning how to use it to complete a project. Videos such as this have been a great source of help, as they answer what, to many, might seem like pretty dumb questions, but when you know nothing, literally, about this sort of thing, well, I suppose there's no such thing as a dumb question. Incidentally, we plan to eventually upload the videos of us trying to figure this process out. Thanks for taking time to post a video on what must seem like something everyone should already know.

    Mark, you never cease to amaze me. I'm a fairly experienced VCarve user yet in my downtime figured I'd watch your upgraded V12 video and still learned a few new things. I'll be sure to follow along and pick up much more valuable tips in upcoming videos as well as continue watching past ones. Now if only you did the same for Sketchup. I just can't seem to pick up Sketchup as easily as I've had Vectric.

    Great videos! Quick suggestion, possibly? Around the 3:10 mark, you are explaining ramps. You move your mouse around to illustrate/show movement of the bit into the substrate, but the 2D background is looking down from the top. Maybe switch to 3D view and then show your ramp with your mouse movements into the material, with it oriented the way you are discussing? I figured out what you meant, but it might help others understand your mouse movements a little easier. Not a critique, just trying to help.

    • @MarkLindsayCNC

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC 8 дней назад

      I have an Omer composite nail gun and use Raptor composite nails when I'm working with plywood or MDF. I don't use them on solid wood, as they tend to split the wood. The nail gun I use is the one offered by Avid CNC. www.avidcnc.com/workholding-c-109_110_99.html

    I want to use a 7 degree dovetail bit to make tapered holes in cylinder (musical flute) The hole will be 3/8" at the surface, the dovetail bit will be smaller (9/32"?) and rotated to create the 3/8". Can you give me a clue how to do? Vcarce Pro. One of the undercut holes is a rounded rectangel (mouth hole)

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC 8 дней назад

      The software will not let you enter a bit that creates an undercut. You have to lie to it and tell it the bit is an end mill. Use the largest cutting diameter as the end mill size. My question is, how do you propose to use a dovetail bit to make a tapered hole, when the wider part of the dovetail bit is on the bottom? Any plunge you do will cut the widest diameter of the bit. Also be aware that dovetail bits aren't made to plunge cut - there's no cutting edge across the bottom of the bit. You might have better luck using a 15° v-bit. They're designed to plunge cut. Unless, of course, I'm not understanding what you're trying to do (which is most likely.)

    • @treslongwell1332
      @treslongwell1332 3 дня назад

      @MarkLindsayCNC I thought I replied to this last week, but I don't see it here. It's a musical flute. 3/4" PVC. The dovetail I have is 9/32, the finished hole will be 3/8. I want to plunge in the center and route the profile, but apparently I can't do it with Vcarve pro 11.5. The keyhole gadget will do the center plunge and exit, but it apparenly only wants to make keyhole shaped holes, I want to do round undercut holes and one undercut oval. I could use the profile path if I could figure out a way to deposit a green node in the center of the hole. I tried crossing polylines, but no center node.

    Hey Mark, great tutorial on text on text! Followed you step by step, and successfully carved my first sign of this type. Thanks! I have a question concerning text on text. I would like to also be able to use a vcarve (engrave) toolpath to do a text on text sign instead of the raised text. Here is a short example of what I am referring to: ruclips.net/video/40CxxQagbvE/видео.html They don't show the process, just the results. Do you have a video already addressing this topic? When I import it into Vcarve I get the half shape of the tool design but am unable to get an open vector to continue. Any idea want I am doing wrong or if I am missing a step. Any help would be appreciated. I contacted Vectric and they said this should be added as A Radiused end ? I have no idea what they are talking about. Thanks

    I have 11+... What is the big benefits of 12+??? Other than the $400 upgrade cost. Would it be more beneficial to purchase aspire instead? My CNC is more of a toy at this point & not into making money from it... YET!!!

    • @MarkLindsayCNC
      @MarkLindsayCNC 22 дня назад

      I would refer you to Vectric's Upgrade page for more direct answers to your questions. BUT, I have to admit that I'm a bit confused. The current upgrade cost for Aspire Version 11.5 and older to Version 12 is around $450. If you have VCarve Pro Version 11.5 or older, it's currently $195. It's cheaper if you have the Desktop version of VCarve. As for what the benefits are, I'll leave that up to you. You can see what's new in Version 12 on their upgrade page. Click See More on the section related to the software you currently have (VCarve Desktop/Pro, or Cut2D, etc...) Basically, your current version still works just great. If you don't feel the need to upgrade, then I wouldn't spend the money. Vectric does NOT deactivate older versions in an attempt to force you to upgrade, like some other companies do (I'm looking at you, Trimble...) Here's the link to Vectric's Upgrade page. Check it out, and decide for yourself if you think it worth it to you to upgrade to Version 12: www.vectric.com/upgrade/
